Circular Strategy & Initiatives

Circular economy is a systems solution framework that tackles global environmental challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. Circularity is based on three key principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials at their highest value and regenerate nature.

Many companies understand the concept of circularity but struggle to apply it to their business. Fully integrated circular business models extend value optimization beyond the scope of short-term financial value. Circular companies need to focus on value optimization in the larger sense, taking environmental, economic, and societal value into account. Further key drivers of a circular economy framework are value optimization, innovation, collaboration, transparency, systems thinking, and stewardship.

There are numerous circular initiatives that can operate across divisions and product groups and are not mutually exclusive. Initiatives can, for example, focus on product life cycle extension by offering a product as a service (PaaS) or by increasing the durability and material efficiency of a product. Other initiatives can be on prioritizing renewable inputs or in recovering by-products and waste. A company's long-term strategy and chosen business model drives the decision which circular initiative to focus on.

CPV provides a transparent and structured approach to implement circular strategy and initiatives by using a flexible framework that is based on EU CEN and ISO high-level standards on circularity, environmental-, energy-, and supply chain management systems.
