Product Value Chains
CPV is specialized in three product value chains: textiles, plastics and packaging. These value chains are key segments of the European Green Deal.
Textiles are the fourth highest-pressure category for the use of primary raw materials and water, and fifth for GHG emissions. The EU is aiming at strengthening industrial competitiveness and innovation in this sector. CPV, in alignment with the EU Circular Economy Action Plan, is offering a comprehensive set of measures for the textile value chain, including eco-design, circular materials, production processes, and product quality.

Consumption of plastics is expected to double in the coming 20 years. The presence of microplastics in the enviropnment is an additional challenge of serious public concern. CPV, in alignment with the EU Strategy for Plastics in the Circular Economy, is providing transparency in developing labeling, standardization, and certification on the unintentional release of microplastics, especially in textiles. Furthermore, CVP is advising on the use of bio-based, biodegradable, or compostable plastics.

In 2017, packaging waste in Europe reached a record - 173kg per inhabitant, the highest level ever. The European Commission is currently reviewing the Directive 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste in order to ensure that all packaging on the EU market is reusable or recyclable in an economically viable way by 2030. CPV is advising on measures to reduce (over)packaging and packaging waste, to design for re-use and recyclability, and to reduce the complexity of packaging materials.
